She was born February 9, 1926 to Edgar and Pearl (Morgan) Polders of Calhan, Colorado. She graduated from Alta Vista High School, rural Calhan, Colorado.
She married Clarence E. Wofford of Simla, Colorado in 1944. They later divorced and he preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister Margaret Gray, a niece Brenda Gray, and great-nephew Jesse Gray.
Arlene is survived by her daughter Jennifer Wofford-Self (Ron) of Hiawatha, Kansas and Westcliffe, Colorado; grandsons Galen Raza-Self (Sheila) of Pittsburgh, PA, Adrian Self (Doina) and great-grandson Alexandru Caragea Self of Manhattan, KS; a brother James E. Polders (Barbara) of Colorado Springs, CO, a sister Kathleen Polders Minich of Olathe, KS; and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Arlene loved to travel and worked for Braniff Airlines from 1959 to 1982. She had lived in Kansas City, Denver, and Honolulu, moving back to the Polders Ranch in 1983. She came to Brown County in 1997.
She was a member of first Presbyterian Church of Hiawatha. She was a resident of Maple Heights since May of 2011.
A celebration of Arlene's life is planned for 10 a.m. Friday, January 4, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hiawatha. Reverend Roxie Sullivan will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley from 2 until 3 Friday afternoon. Burial will follow at the Bala Community Cemetery, near Riley.
Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Thursday where the family will meet from 6 until 7:30 that evening.
