(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The last day of 2012 has brought snow for much of the area, with greater accumulation expected south of St. Joseph.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is encouraging those with New Year's Eve party plans to keep an eye on road conditions before heading out.

MoDOT's website offers updates for state highways and interstates. Video cameras on the site also provide instant visuals for those traveling, with seven cameras located in northwest Missouri.

The snow began falling before 10 o'clock Monday morning. The snowfall is expected to remain light to moderate throughout the day.

KQ2 Meteorologist William Seay predicts the snow will linger until late tonight, with total accumulation in the St. Joseph area expected to be around 2-3 inches.

Stay with KQ2 for weather updates as the system moves through the area.
