Kay was born July 22, 1917 in California, MO. She Lived in St. Joseph most of her life, moving to Smithville in 1991, then to Kansas City in 2008. She Married Charles A. (Chick) Degginger in Kansas City, MO on July 29, 1942. Chick preceded her in death, February 2004.
Kay Graduated from Lafayette High School, in St. Joseph.
In her early years she attended Marvin McMurray United Methodist Church and was active in many North St. Joseph sports activities. She played baseball with the North St. Joseph "Goetz Girls".
Along with her husband, she owned and operated Chic Art Shop in St. Joseph where they taught ceramics and China painting. They also owned and operated Kay's Laundromat in North St. Joseph. Kay was an active member and sponsor of the St. Joseph Hobby Club. She was a member of the St. Luke's Northland Hospital Auxiliary. Kay was devoted to her family and enjoyed cooking, playing cards and pool. Her grandchildren were her inspiration.
She was preceded in death by her parents: David P. and Pearl F. (Gregory) Sullivan. She was also preceded by three Brothers: Clancy, Lester & Chester and three Sisters: Josephine Hurley, Mary Johnson Laipple and Ina Mae Reinke.
Kay is survived by, 2 Sons: Charles F. Degginger and wife Karla, Kansas City, MO; Dennis S. Johnson, Apache Junction, AZ; 4 Grandchildren: Katie & Connor Degginger, Kansas City Wendi Johnson, Broomfield, CO; Sami Johnson, Chicago, IL, and several nieces & Nephews.
Services 1:00 PM Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph, Missouri. Entombment Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday evening at our chapel.
