Region Braces for First Winter Storm of the Season

Just after noon, some light rain began to fall in St. Joseph. Cloud cover has been ample all day.
With temperatures struggling to get out of the 30s, and winds picking up this afternoon, rain should intensify as cooler comes in by sunset.
The rain will become snowfall overnight, with areas to our north seeing accumulation before we do.
The expectation right now is a total snow accumulation between 3 and 5 inches. Sleet is possible early morning Thursday.
Even when precipitation subsides, the forecast looks pretty nasty for Thursday.
High winds will create the potential for some blowing snow and snowdrifts, lowering visibilities, and pretty sharp wind chills.
Thursday's high is not expected to get above freezing.
