(SAVANNAH, Mo.) A St. Joseph girl is getting an early Christmas present this year as she battles a rare birth defect.

Friends and family gathered in Savannah, Missouri Friday night to raise money and support for six year-old Liberty Thompson.

Thompson was born with a birth defect called craniosynotosis. It is a rare disease where the "soft spot" in the skull forms too fast, not giving the brain ample room to grow.

The Jesse James Antique Mall and Rusty Chandelier hosted the party and benefit for Thompson Friday evening to help cover some of her surgery costs.

The Thompson family says the support is a welcome Christmas present.

"It means a great deal," said Keith Thompson, Liberty's father. "We've had so many blessings during this whole time. It's kind of overwhelming how many blessings we've had."

The goal of the Jesse James Antique Mall and Rusty Chandelier is to raise a $1000 for Liberty's surgery costs.

The businesses are selling raffle tickets at $1 a piece for prizes to benefit the charity.

Raffle tickets can be bought at the Jesse James Antique Mall and Rusty Chandelier located at I-29 and Business Highway 71 until December 21.

This is great that the community is helping this girl. North Andrew (the school she attends) did a fund raiser and the students were so generous they raised more money than this event hopes to. Just so you know, she is not a "St. Joseph girl".
