Defendant Free Again

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) After her bond was briefly revoked Thursday, a mother charged with the death of her young daughter is free again.

After failing to secure an attorney, Associate Circuit Judge Ron Taylor revoked Alexandra Schurr's bond during a hearing Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon, St. Joseph attorney Tim Warren agreed to take the case and requested her bond be reinstated.

Taylor agreed to the request and Schurr was released from jail Thursday afternoon.

Schurr's young daughter, who suffered from cerebral palsy, was allegedly left unattended for more than 20 hours. The 21-year-old defendant was charged with involuntary manslaughter in November.

During a hearing one week earlier, Schurr claimed that she could not afford an attorney, and the public defender's office had refused to take her case due to the amount of her bond. Schurr was free on $50,000 bond at the time.

Warren had also been present during the previous week's hearing and stated that he would take the case if Schurr didn't find an attorney.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January, 3.
