He graduated from Maryville High School. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served in the heavy artillery unit during World War II.
On April 5, 1947 Nelson and Lois Jean Lowrance were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Maryville, Missouri by Reverend Robert Holladay. Together they haved worked the family farm for 50 years.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maxine and brother- in- law, Robert Peter; a brother Gerald Keever, Morrison, Illinois; a sister, Helen (Keever) Bartlett, New Castle, Wyoming and nephews Tommy Bartlett, Mike Lowrance, and niece Julie Vogel.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, a beloved daughter Terri (Dale) Stewart, a grandson Colby (Lesley) Weichinger, a great granddaughter Marleigh born November 13, 2012 and a sister Ilene (Don) Weber, Longmont, Colorado; a brother- in- law Laverne Lowrance (Margaret), Maryville; Nephews Charles Bartlett, Saratoga Wyoming and Ron Vulgamott, Tuscon, Arizona; Steve Peter, Platte City, Missouri; Dr. Don Peter, Hermiston, Oregon, Mark Lowrance, Wright City, Missouri, Randy Lowrance, Branson, Missouri; Nieces Marilyn (Bartlett) VanBriggle, Gordon, Nebraska, Carolyn (Bartlett) Foster, Laramie, Wyoming, Debra Blean, Morrison Illinois, and Sherry (Lowrance) Carmichael, Pickering, Missouri.
Visitation is open at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM at the Price Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, December 14, 2012 with burial following in Miriam Cemetery.
