(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A Canadian kayaker's magnificent expedition led him to St. Joseph this week.

Rod Wellington has been kayaking the Missouri River since the middle of June. Wednesday, he stopped in St. Joe for a few days of rest. His journey began at Brower's Spring in Montana.

He plans to paddle the entire length of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, but his ultimate goal is to complete his "Magnificent Seven Project," which is to kayak the longest river systems on all seven continents.

He says he does it to inspire others to start their own adventure.

"It's part of a larger project for me to get out and meet people, hopefully inspire people to get out and have an adventure of their own. Even if it's just for a weekend, doesn't necessarily have to be water based, but just out there and do it. Dream it up and do it," Wellington says.

Wellington plans to finish his trip in New Orleans in time for Mardi Gras.
