Barbara was the second of five sisters; she grew up in St. Joe and then graduated from Maryville High School in 1953. She graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1957 with a degree in Home Economics.
Barbara married James Ray Gromer in 1957.
She taught at Sheridan, Missouri before raising Kathy, Michael and Tracy Gromer in Cumberland, Maryland, Redlands, California, and Overland Park, Kansas. She later became a highly skilled veterinary laboratory technician and worked at several labs in the Kansas City area for almost twenty years before rheumatoid arthritis caused her early retirement. She still enjoyed traveling, and volunteered for many years at a local hospital before Alzheimer's forced her to retire again.
Barbara loved music, reading and sewing. Watching her children and grandchildren in sports and musical events was the highlight of her life. She adored her tomato and rose gardens. Barbara was a hard-working, cheerful and supportive wife and mother.
She is sorely missed by her family. She is survived by husband James Ray Gromer, daughters Kathy R. (Roberto Sobalvarro) and Tracy A. Gromer, and son Michael R. (Alison) Gromer; sisters Marilyn (Gordon) Robertson, Dixie (Wayne) James, and Judy (Michael) Thompson; and grandchildren Mary E., Matthew, Sarah, Luke Gromer and James Sobalvarro.
She was predeceased by her beloved parents Stephen and Iola (Dowden) LaMar and her sister Jane Haider.
Burial will be at the LaMar Cemetery on Century Trail off Highway C, west of Highway 71, at 2pm on Saturday December 1, 2012. A luncheon will be served at Noon at the LaMar farm home 1/2 mile south of the cemetery, 15766 Century Trail, Burlington Jct., MO 64428, 660-742-3448.
