(EFFINGHAM, Ks.) A northeast Kansas man, accused of sex crimes with a minor, was found dead at his home this week one day before his court hearing.
James White, 44, was scheduled to appear in court this week to face one count of rape, three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy.
Authorities with the Atchison County Sheriff's Department were called to White's home Wednesday morning, where they found the man with a gun shot wound.
According to our reporting partner KAIR, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) determined the fatal injury was self-inflicted.
White was arrested in July on the sex crime charges against a teenage girl.
He was free on bond, awaiting his preliminary hearing in the case.
