Frank G. Knapp, 91, St. Joseph, MO

Frank was born on May 28, 1921 in St. Joseph, Missouri to James and Wilda (Courtin) Knapp, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Knapp served his country honorably in the United States Army and Air Force retiring after 22 years of service, serving in WWII. He was the last surviving member of his unit from the Bataan Death March (194th Tank Battalion) and was a POW from 1942-1945 in Japan. Mr. Knapp was regional manager for AAA, retiring after 25 years.
Frank was a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite, Hi-Twelve, Legion of Honor, American Legion Post 11 and the Air Force Sgt. Association.
Frank married Doris Ward on August 28, 1965 at Huffman United Methodist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Doris, of the home; 7 children, Mike and Fred Knapp, both of St. Joseph, MO; Cheryl Stewart, Leesville, LA; Debbie Constock, Fillmore, MO; Sharon Joswick, St. Joseph, MO; Sandy Polsky, Savannah, MO and Cindy Whitlock, Jefferson City, MO; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Jay Knapp, St. Joseph, MO; Ned Knapp, Little Rock, AR and Bill Knapp, Walnut Grove, CA, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside Service and Interment 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel; where the family will receive friends 6:00-7:00 PM Tuesday.
Memorial donation may be made to Kendallwod Hospice, Shriners Hospitals for Children or Donor's Choice.
