He was born September 16, 1925 in Maitland, Missouri to Bryant and Gladys (McHenry) King. David married Eleanor G. (Nixon) on June 25, 1950, they spent the next 28 years in the Army stationed around the world. Upon retirement from the Army in 1978, they returned to Maitland, eventually settling in St. Joseph in 1990.
Col. King graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1950. He was a long time member of Maitland Presbyterian Church, of which his grandfather was a charter member. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America and OV-1 Mohawk Association; Association of West Point Graduates; Experimental Test Pilot Association; USA Field Artillery Association; Army Aviation Association of America; and a 50 year member of the American Legion Post #256, Maitland. David was a decorated Army veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ivan King.
Survivors: his wife; daughter, Libby K. Rotkoff (Steve), Lansing, Kansas; son, Bryant King (Sally), Kansas City, Missouri; daughter, Mary B. Stoll, (George), Alexandria, Virginia; grandchildren, Jeffre Rotkoff (Neesha), Sara Rotkoff, Lindsey King and Matthew King; great-grandchildren, Eli and Norah Rotkoff; and his brother, Robert Richard King.
Services: 1:00 P.M. Monday, Maitland Presbyterian Church. Interment Maitland Cemetery, Maitland, Missouri. The family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial gifts to Maitland Presbyterian Church.
