Alice Lorraine Benner, 93, of Weston, MO, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Hillview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Platte City, MO.
A visitation will be held 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2012; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service, at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. The family suggests contributions be given to the First Baptist Church of Weston.
Alice was born October 23, 1918 in Cosby, MO to Loren Edwin and Vera Lucille (Hoffman) Brown. During her childhood, her family moved around because of her father's work, and Alice graduated from the Savannah MO High School. She later moved to the Weston/Iatan, MO area, where she has remained. Alice married Jean Russell Benner on September 11, 1938 at the First Baptist of Weston, where she has remained an active member. She was a 1966 graduate of St. Mary's College, in Leavenworth, KS, where she earned her degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Music. Alice worked for thirteen years as an Elementary Music Teacher for the West Platte, Lakeview, and Farley, MO schools. In later years, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband. She is survived by: her son Larry (Linda) Benner of Independence, MO; her daughter Cheryl Brownell of Weston; her sister Ellen Delores Fogler of St. Joseph, MO; 4 grandchildren Heath Day, Shilo Brownell, Lisa (Bryant) Stoll, and Landon (Brei) Benner; and 4 great grandchildren Adyson Day, Seth and Marah Jacoby, and Nathan Stoll.
