Jo was born on June 25, 1928 in White Cloud, Kansas to Floyd & Alice (Hall) McAlister.
Jo was an employee of the Hertz Cattle Company for 16 years & ran her own tax company for 20 Years. Jo was also a co-founder of the American Diabetes Foundation in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was a member of the Iowa Tribe & attended High School at Haskell Institute, then went later in life to KU. She obtained her Masters of Fine Arts from Kansas State University. Jo was a talented & gifted artist. She kept her children involved in 4-H, horses, sports & the arts.
Jo dedicated her life to her children & grandchildren, Truett Hayes, Ethan Hall, Trace Alan, William Philip, Chase Allen & little Rebecca Anne Marie. Jo is also survived by her sister, Betty Dorrell of Highland, Kansas, brother, Val McAlister of Orem, Utah, and multiple nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her little fat mother, brothers, James, Fred, John & Charles McAlister, and her father. Visitation 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Harman Rohde Funeral Home, Wathena, Kansas and a Funeral Service at 7:30 P.M. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Friends may call after 11:00 A.M. Saturday morning. Inurnment at a later date. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation
