(FAUCETT, Mo.) Randy Williams first season leading the Mid-Buchanan Dragons came with some growing pains.

"I think we learned a lot last year," Williams said. "I think we all learned a lot last year."

After a 3-7 campaign and just one KCI Conference win, the Mid-Buch players are a year wiser, and are buying into what Williams' coaching staff is selling.

"I feel like we are more prepared this year," offensive and defensive lineman Jacob Lawhon said.

Now one year into the new system, the Dragons can focus more closely on the red zone struggles. Mid-Buchanan scored more than 14 points just once during conference games last season.

Williams says that's something that has to change in a hurry.

"It was a new system for everybody last year, and it took until the end of the year for everybody to kind of understand what was going on," Williams said. "And we definitely had some troubles. That's something we have to definitely improve on this year."

Lawhon's leading the charge up front. He believes his line combine with the talent in the backfield can do some damage in the coming season.

"Definitely more experienced up front I believe, and hour skill guys are phenomenal this year," Lawhon said.

With the talent on the 2012 Dragons squad, and one year of head coaching on Williams' resume, Mid-Buch is ready to get back to work.

Williams: Looking forward to this year now. Looking forward to the second go-around.
