John Douglas "JD" Hannah, Jr., 91, Bolckow, MO

He was born July 1, 1921 to J.D. and Clara (Cawood) Hannah, Sr. John Married Genevieve "Swede" Johnson on April 24, 1948. She preceded him in death in 2002. He was a 1938 graduate of Bolckow High School. JD was of the Christian faith, member of the Rosendale Christian Church, and American Legion Post # 287.
He founded, owned, and operated the Rea Grain and Feed elevator for over 57 years, also serving as President of the Corporation. In the spring of 2010, the elevator was sold to Platte Valley Ag. JD also farmed several hundred acres in North West Missouri, including his parents ground. He was the first person in Andrew County to receive the "100 Bushel Club" award. JD also raised cattle and hogs, establishing the first hog confinement operation in North West Missouri around 1967 in affiliation with Purina Feeds. JD was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1942-1947, serving in the South Pacific during WWII as a fighter pilot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter; Janet Herbert, sister and brother-in-law; Belvadene and Homer Fuller.
Survivors: 2 daughters; Charlotte Myers, Bolckow, Missouri and Stacy (Mike) Cole, Rosendale, Missouri, Son-in-law; Edward Herbert, brother; Veldron Hannah both of Bolckow, Missouri, 1 grandson, 5 granddaughters, and 5 great-granddaughters.
The family would like to show appreciation to Melissa Grishow, who cared for him in the home for the last five years. She has worked for J.D. and Genevieve as the bookkeeper for Rea Grain and Feed, Hannah Oil Company, and Hannah Farms for the last 46 years.
Celebration of Life: 10:00 AM Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Rosendale Christian Church, Rosendale, Missouri. Interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Bolckow, Missouri. Public visitation and family receiving hours 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Breit-Hawkins and Gladden Chapel, Savannah, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to Rosendale Christian Church, Walnut Grove Cemetery, or a charity of the donor's Choice.
