(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A college extension in St. Joseph moved to a new location on Tuesday. After four years downtown, Northwest Missouri State University moved to the remodeled Green Acres building near the North Shoppes.

The university made the decision to move last fall.

They say the new location offers a different type of facility with smaller square footage, but easy access to the interstate nearly 200 free parking spaces for students.

"We wanted to have a really good location for our students. We like the drive-by that we're going to get. We like the historical location. We don't just have students from St. Joseph. We have students from all over northwest Missouri up to the Iowa border so this is really accessible for them as well." Melody Messner, of NWMSU said.

NWMSU has been in St. Joseph for 40 years. Classes begin at the Green Acres location on May 3.

A grand opening is planned for the end of the month.
