Emergency responders met today at Heartland Regional Medical Center to discuss placement options for automatic external defibrillators or AEDs. These devices can check a person`s heart rhythm and even recognize when a shock is needed. AEDs use voice prompts and text messages to guide a rescuer through every step. Paramedics are trying to generate funds to put the $1,500 AEDs in more Midland Empire locations. They say almost anyone can use them. Anybody can use an AED. We just trained some Boy Scouts to use AED`s in their training program. So, I mean children, adults anybody can use an AED. You don`t have to be medically trained," Tom Little, Heartland paramedics director, says. AED`s are already located in some St. Joseph businesses and you can buy them at pharmacies and online.
