Juneteenth Garage Sale Brings in Bucks for Annual Event

Updated: January 7, 2009
Donations continue to pour in while shoppers rummage through a garage sale for the Juneteenth Festival. Community members donated all of the items up for sale. Proceeds will go toward hosting the annual event that celebrates african-american history and the end of slavery. Organizers say the event is an expensive task but well worth the hardwork. This is the second year for the garage sale and on-going success could make it tradition. Board member Jerome Williams said, "We may make it an annual event and if we get so many donations we may extend it more than two days. Last year it was just one day this year it`s two. I don`t know about next year." Juneteenth celebrations are held throughout the month of June usually during the first two weeks.
