Mexican Fiesta has long roots

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
While many know about the Mexican Fiesta, many don`t know who started this local tradition. Young Mexican-Americans are already starting to learn and take part in the Mexican Fiesta. For more than four decades, Saint Patrick`s Parish Mexican Fiesta has grown to be one of the most attended festivities in town. And some of the original family members who helped start this family tradition are still helping out. From the cooking to the dancing, they say their traditions have been passed down from one generation to the next. But they admit many of the Fiesta events have become a bit Americanized. The original families, like the Guardado, Barbosa and Rocha`s were among some of the first to start the Fiesta. And they say their close-knit relationship is what made this tradition such a great success. They have hope that the next generation of Mexican-Americans will continue in their footsteps.
