Council Members May Axe Annexation

St. Joseph city council members plan to put axe to involuntary annexation. It`s a matter of less funds and lots of public oppostion that led council members to decide "no" on involuntary annextion of 15-square-miles that includes agency and the surrounding land. A portion of the council came to an unoffical vote at last night`s committee meeting. Council member Mike Hirter says currently the city does not have the money to provide the needed services to the area that would be annexed. Hirter says, still, he`s confident it`s an issue that will come up again. "I would rather think it would come up as voluntary as opposed to involuntary. But yeah, I think at some point it will come up again maybe not in the same area. But like I said St. Jo is going to grow... and to grow you need room," says Hirter. An official vote won`t be made until Monday`s city council meeting.
