Updated: January 7, 2009
Red cross volunteers get final instructions before flying out to assist flood victims on the east coast. Four Midland Empire Red Cross volunteers filled out forms and received emergency phone numbers today. They`ll arrive in Binghampton, New York tomorrow. They`ll provide shelter and food for flood victims forced from their homes. Volunteer Kevin Connell has been on seven dister relief assignments in the last two years. Connell has advice for first time volunteers. Connell said, "I would tell them to be prepared to be flexible out in the field because it`s very different from what you see in the videos and just bring a bag with everything you can imagine that you might need." At least 16 deaths are blamed on the storms.
