A local pastor and professor who has excavated in Israel and traveled to 22 countries is using his archealogical expertise to debunk The Davinci Code. Dr. Jimmy Albright says he`s traveled to every location mentioned in the best-selling novel and box office hit. Albright says he understands it`s a page turner and seat filler. Albright said, "I think there`s a variety of reasons why it`s grabbing people and becoming more than fiction. Number one there`s a lot of distrust of the church. Some peole are also jumping on it because they want a way out. They don`t want to believe the Bible is true about lifestyle, how you ought to live, sin heaven and hell judgements so this is an out.""
Albright says he realizes the book is fiction but says he`s bothered by the authors claims that the historical facts mentioned in the book are accurate. Albright says the book is based on the creation of a secret society called the Priory of Sion. The book claims the group was created to protect the decendents of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. The movie and book claim they were married and had a daughter named Sarah. Albright said, "The problem is the Priory of Sion was established in 1956 and not 1099. It was established to help rally for low income housing for Parisians it had nothing to do with the mary thing it was 500 years later. By refuting that one thing he built this whole book on then you refute the whole book." Albright says that if he got that fact wrong that only means there`s more. Albright plans to prove what he calls "four glaring inaccuracies" in the book during his worship services at Wyatt Park Baptist Church over the next few weeks on Sunday. He says even though the book and the movie are historically inaccurate he enjoys the fact that people are interested in religion and holding religious debates.
