Nodaway County Health Ordinance Causes Concerns

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Farming is big business in Nodaway County...that`s why Advanced Pork Systems - a hog breeding company - was excited about moving there. Until recently when the county health board stiffened the guidelines for concentrated animal feeding operations or CAFO`S. A fifteen page ordinance contains strict rules and regulations for CAFO`S. Guidelines some Nodaway County commisioners fear are too strict. Commissioners say farming operations play a big role in Nodaway County. They fear this ordinance may put a dent in agricultural production and prevent CAFO`s from coming to town. Officials with the health board...stand behind the need for this ordinance. One thing both sides agree on - the welfare of the community. They have set up a task force to find a solution that is in the best interest of Nodaway County residents.
