Updated: January 7, 2009
Students at Central High School focus on finances. The school launched its "Be Smart Missouri" program. The initiative teaches students how to better handle money. Speakers from credit services and the Secretary of State`s Office were on hand to offer advice. Faculty members say it`s important for teens to get a handle on credit before digging into debt...especially at such a young age. "We hope that by having this assembly....the students will realize the importance of how to use credit. There are a few stories about credit that really got the student`s attention yesterday. That`s what we hope to make an impact," says Be Smart Chairman, Sherry Readenour. The State Board now requires students take a personal finance course starting with this year`s freshman class.
