The Browns were taking part in a self defense class at Rolling Hills Library because Chloe's mother wants her children to be prepared.
"They need to know how to protect themselves at all times," said Leslie Brown.
It may have looked like dance choreography. But for the students, they are moves that could possibly save their lives.
"I just wanted my daughters to learn how to get away if something ever happened to them and I wasn't there to protect them or there dad wasn't there," said Brown.
A case that is all too common and something instructors say happens too much.
Gabe Wagers, a self defense instructor, said there's could be someone facing an attack every five to ten minutes across the country.
"Unfortunately with the way the world is anymore, you don't know what could be waiting around that corner or what could happen in that next step," said Gabe Wagers.
Wagers and Shawn Harper spent Thursday night instructing the class held at Rolling Hills Library.
Scenario after scenario, they taught students young, old, men, women, and children how to react in a scary situation.
"You go into a situation knowing that you have the possibility of coming back out of it," said Wagers.
Something the Browns are happy to teach their children and hope they never have to use.
"We've seen things on TV and we've practiced at home but it was nice to actually come to something that was showing defensive moves," said Brown.
