Teen Driver Faces Felony Charges in Fatal Accident

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A DeKalb teen faces felony charges after a fatal accident early Friday morning in St. Joseph.
Dylan S. Pierce, 17, was charged with involuntary manslaughter after a passenger in the truck he crashed Friday morning died.
Police say Pierce lost control of a 2007 Chevrolet pickup while traveling eastbound on Cook Road just east of 169 Highway around 3 a.m. Friday. The vehicle went off the road and hit a tree.
Pierce was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center with minor injuries and was later released.
Cole Patrick, 18, of St. Joseph was pronounced dead on the scene. Patrick was a backseat passenger in the truck. Another passenger, 18-year-old Brent S. Bush of DeKalb was allowed to leave the scene by private vehicle with minor injuries.
Police said Patrick and Pierce were not wearing seat belts.

Julie, when the kids have fake id's they are able to do lots of things.

This is sad for all involved and my heart hurts for the family who lost their son, as well as the boy who was driving; however, I'm wondering who provided them with the alcohol.... It's known they're not 21, so it seems to me their are others at fault here, too. Parents, parents of friends, older friends... In my opinion, they should be more at fault for this terrible tragedy. I have a 17 year old son so I know these boys still have maturing to do, then you add alcohol into the mix. Who in their right mind can say this boy should be held solely responsible? It's insane. The system isn't doing its job if the blame is left entirely with this boy.
