Identity Theft Complaints Up 10% in Mo.

The Federal Trade Commission released a report by the Consumer Sentinel Network of the top 30 consumer complaints received in 2011.
According to the report, identity theft complaints are at the top of the list.
In Missouri, complaints are up 10%, with 4,282 complaints filed throughout the time period between Jan. 1, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2011.
Of those, 15%, or 655 complaints, were on government documents or benefits fraud.
Phone or utilities fraud came in at 14%, with 583 complaints in Missouri.
The report indicates there were 337 attempted identity thefts reported throughout the state.
Nationally, identity theft complaints are also up, at 11%.
According to the report, more than 1.8 million complaints were filed in 2011, and 15%, or 279,156, were identity theft complaints.
Overall, Missouri is 19 out of 50 in number of identity theft complaints. Kansas is 24.
