The Atchison County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that an explosion has happened at Midwest Grain in Atchison, Kansas.
It happened a little after 6:00 p.m.
A bearing on the west elevator grain leg overheated, blowing a door off of the elevator, according to Captain Mike Domann with the Atchison Fire Department.
Fire crews entered the elevator and removed a small portion of grain and cooled the overheated area.
No one was injured in the explosion.
Capt. Domann says the incident is a minor one compared to past explosions at the plant. He says when the explosion call came in (to the fire station), several firefighters started having flashbacks to previous explosions, but were relieved once they assessed the situation.
The explosion caused minor damage to the west leg, which will need repair before it is able to work again.
