(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A St. Joseph native is pushing his skills serving in the military.

Chief Petty Officer Nathan Goben started his career toward the Navy since he first joined the Sea Cadets at 13 years old.

He worked his way up and eventually advanced to the top level in the Sea Cadets.

Before actively joining the military, he spent a week at the Navel Academy in Annapolis, Md., as part of a select group during his junior year in high school.

"He was chosen up there to go do that," said Steve Goben, Nathan's father. "So one out of 2500 in the world is amazing."

Goben is now stationed in Goose Creek, S.C.

He is training to be an electronic technician and is expected to graduate this May.
