(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) Tuesday marked the beginning of the new league year in the NFL and opened free agency, and it was a day that the Kansas City Chiefs new regime did not take lightly.

The Chiefs signed three free agents, as well as finalized its deal acquiring a quarterback Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers for two draft picks.

Smith's deal originally was reported in late February, but could not be made official until Tuesday.

Kansas City wasn't done making deals for signal-callers though.

The Chiefs biggest waves throughout the state came when they signed former Missouri Tiger quarterback Chase Daniel to backup Smith.

Daniel's already three seasons into his NFL career as a second-string quarterback, all of which were spent in New Orleans behind Drew Brees.

He's thrown just nine passes throughout his career, and completed seven of them for 55 yards.

While quarterbacking at Mizzou, Daniel was a Heisman Trophy finalist in his junior season, and threw for 12,515 yards and 101 touchdowns through four seasons.

Kansas City signed Daniel to a three-year deal worth $9 million.

They also brought in a target for Smith and Daniel.

Tight end Anthony Fasano reached an agreement to come to Kansas City.

Fasano just wrapped up the seventh, and most productive, season of his career.

After being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, Fasano's spent the last five years with the Miami Dolphins.

In 2012, he caught 41 passes for 332 yards and five touchdowns.

He fills the gap left when Kevin Boss was released last month.

Cornerback Dunta Robinson also joins the Chiefs after getting cut by the Falcons earlier in the month.

Robinson has reportedly signed a three-year deal. He turns 31 in April.

Also on the defensive side of the ball, end Mike DeVito comes over from the New York Jets.

DeVito's spent five seasons in the NFL, and has racked up 126 tackles and 11 run-stuffs during his career.
