(MARYVILLE, Mo.) Northwest Head Coach Ben McCollum said the offense tried to do too much once the Bearcats found themselves struggling in their two losses in the Hawaii Classic.

They were able to calm that down Saturday, but got all they could handle in the first half against NAIA-foe Central Methodist.

The Bearcats (9-2) pulled away late to top the Eagles 79-59 to round out non-conference play.

Filling in for an ill Dillon Starzl, Grant Cozad put together with a 13-point, five-rebound effort to finish as one of three Bearcats to post double figures.

The first half saw five lead changes as the teams hit the locker room knotted 35-35.

On the other side, the Bearcats set out on a 15-2 run to start the second half, fueled, in part, by a game-high 18 points from Alex Sullivan.

Tyler Funk added 10 points for Northwest.

The team plays away from Bearcat Arena in six of their next seven contests, starting with a trip to Missouri Southern for an MIAA tilt on Thursday.
