(MANKATO, Minn.) Super Region 3 found its second overtime game in as many weeks in Minnesota Saturday.

Unlike their rivals from St. Joseph, the Bearcats did not leave the field happy.

Sam Brockshus booted a field goal in the second overtime period for the Mavericks to end Northwest's season by a 38-35 final.

The Mankato offense burned the Bearcat defenders in the first half, marching out to a 21-0 lead heading into the locker room.

Northwest (10-3) chipped away at the deficit in the second half, scoring 14 unanswered points off a nine-yard scramble by Billy Creason and a five-yard connection between Trevor Adams and Joel Gantz.

Keyvan's Rudd's circus catch in the end zone put the Mavericks' (12-0) advantage back to two scores at 28-14.

The Bearcats were again able to rattle off two straight scores and knot it up as Adams hooked up with Tyler Shaw before a blocked punt set up three-yard plunge by Jordan Simmons.

In overtime, the Maverick offense struck on their first try when Andy Pfeiffer pounced in from six yards away. Pfeiffer finished with 120 yards and a pair of scores.

The Bearcats answered as Adams connected with Simmons for 25 yards, sending the contest to a second overtime. Adams finished the day 22-for-34 for 218 yards and three touchdowns.

The offense stalled on their following possession when Adams threw his fourth interception of the day in the back of the end zone. That set up Brockshus to boot the game winner.

The Mavericks will host Missouri Western in the finale in Super Region 3 next weekend.
