Final Score: St. Louis 10, Kansas City 3
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Larry Johnson finally suited up for the Chiefs, but not for long, and the St. Louis Rams topped Kansas City, 10-3, in the preseason finale for both clubs.
Johnson, who held out for much of the preseason in search of a new contract, played in Kansas Citys first drive, rushing three times for 12 yards.
Third-string quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick led the Rams offense, completing 12- of-18 passes for 105 yards and the only touchdown of the game. Marques Hagans had four catches for 53 yards and a score for St. Louis (2-2), which opens the regular season at home against the Carolina Panthers on September 9.
Third-string quarterback Jeff Terrell completed 15-of-25 passes for 117 yards and an interception for the Chiefs (0-4), who open at the Houston Texans on September 9. Kolby Smith gained 64 yards on seven carries for the Chiefs.
Kevin Lovells 36-yard field goal with 8:47 left in the first quarter gave the Rams the early edge, capping an 11-play, 52-yard drive.
Neither team scored again until Fitzpatrick and Hagans hooked up on a 20-yard score with 2:47 remaining in the third quarter, finishing off a 10-play, 61- yard drive.
Justin Medlocks 40-yard field goal with 2:46 left in the game finally put the Chiefs on the board.
The Rams did suffer one injury of note, losing backup offensive lineman Todd Steussie in the first quarter to a broken left foot. The 36-year-old Steussie is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks with the injury.
