Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Mark Teahen went 3-for-5 with a pair of triples and five runs driven in as the Kansas City Royals pounded the St. Louis Cardinals, 17-8, in the finale of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium.
Emil Brown went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three driven in and David DeJesus added three RBI for the Royals, who have won three of four.
Zack Greinke (4-4) got the win as he pitched four innings and gave up one run on four hits. Scott Elarton started on the mound but was pounded for six runs on five hits with three walks in two-plus innings.
Chris Duncan hit a three-run home run and drove in four while Kip Wells (2-11) was handed the loss for giving up six runs on three hits with four walks in just 1 1/3 innings of work for the Cardinals, who have dropped five of their last seven.
The Cardinals had a 4-1 lead in the second, but Kansas City exploded for eight runs in the frame to take the lead.
With the bases loaded, DeJesus was hit by a pitch to bring home Ryan Shealy and Esteban German punched a single to left to score Tony Pena and Joey Gathright.
Randy Flores took the mound, but fared no better. Teahen greeted Flores with a single to center to score DeJesus and Brown followed with a double to left to plate German and Teahen. Two batters later, Shealy grounded into a fielders choice to score Brown and, after a Jason LaRue single, Pena knocked a single to right and Shealy crossed the plate for a 9-4 lead.
St. Louis got two runs back in the third as Scott Rolen hit a sacrifice fly to score So Taguchi and Duncan hit an RBI single to score Albert Pujols to make it a 9-6 game.
The Royals, though, answered with six runs in the fourth to make it a 15-6 contest.
Alex Gordon got things going with a two-run homer over the right field wall. With two outs and runners on first and second, DeJesus hit a two-run double to center. After German walked and Tyler Johnson stepped on the mound, Teahen punched a triple to left to complete the six-run inning.
The Cardinals got a run back in the sixth as Adam Kennedy singled to right to score Aaron Miles, but Teahens second triple of the game scored Tony Pena and Joey Gathright for a 17-7 lead.
Pujols hit a solo home run in the seventh to account for the final score.
St. Louis got a run in the first as Pujols hit into a double play that allowed Kennedy to cross the plate, but Kansas City got the run back in the bottom of the frame thanks to Browns RBI single.
The Cardinals grabbed a 4-1 lead in the second as Duncan blasted a three-run homer over the right field wall.
