Army National Guard Honors Service to Families

(ALBANY, Mo.) It can be difficult adjusting to military life for some families.
Robyn Akins works for a Family Readiness Group with the Missouri Army National Guard.
While her husband serves on the 1-129th Field Artillery Battalion, Akins is doing service of her own.
As part of the group, she keeps families connected who may be struggling with military life.
Because of her service, the Missouri Army National Guard awarded her with the Molly Pitcher Award.
"It's really neat. It's a great recognition," said Akins. "It's just a way that the soldiers give back and say hey we see what you're doing and we appreciate it."
The award is given to women who make improvements to lives of field artillery communities.
Molly Pitcher is best remembered for manning her husband's gun during a battle in the Revolutionary War.
