(ANDREW COUNTY, Mo.) A scam targeting the elderly is making its way around Andrew County.

Sheriff Bryan Atkins said several people have filed reports about a man with an accent asking for banking information over the phone.

The caller, who is described as very persistent, claims he's with the Social Security office and asks if the person's bank account has at least $1,500.

Atkins said the Social Security office is aware of the scam and does not seek that type of information over the phone.

Anyone who receives a similar call that they suspect is a scam should call the Andrew County Sheriff's office at 816-324-4114.
