(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) The Chiefs confirm
Romeo Crennel is out as head coach, but as of right now General Manager Scott Pioli is still with the team.

Team owner Clark Hunt said today he, not Pioli, will head up the search for the Chiefs' new head coach.

He also revealed a change in the structure in the front office, saying the new coach will answer directly to Hunt, not the general manager.

The Chiefs finished the season 2-14 and earned the top pick in the 2013 NFL draft.

Crennel, at 65 years old, was promoted last season to replace Todd Haley . He has compled a 28-55 career reord as a head coach.

Pioli, 47, joined the Chiefs in 2009 after nine seasons with the Patriots. Kansas City is 23-40 in his four seasons.

Hunt said he'd like to make a decision on Pioli's future by early February.

Crennel released this statement after addressing the team:

"Obviously I'm very disappointed in the way our season went. At the end of the day, the NFL is a performance-based league, and we weren't able to win. I want to thank the Hunt family for the opportunity as well as our players, coaches and fans for their support during my time in Kansas City. As for my future, I'm planning to take some time to reflect on this season, evaluate everything, and make a decision based on what's right for myself and my family."
