(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) The Chiefs defense played up to the level of their opponent under center on Sunday.

For the most part.

But the offense couldn't match the trio of scoring drives Peyton Manning put together as the Kansas City (1-10) fell to the Broncos 17-9.

Manning finished the day 22-for-37 for 285 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Fortune was hard to come by in the early going as Manning was picked off by Brandon Flowers and sacked one of two times on the day.

Down 6-0 after two Ryan Succop field goals just before halftime, Denver marched the the goal line as Manning hit Jacob Tammie on a seven-yard slant route to take a 7-6 advantage into halftime.

Succop booted a 49-yarder in the third quarter to put Kansas City back on top 9-7. He also connected from distances of 34 and 22 yards.

Manning responded with another trip to the end zone when he found Demaryius Thomas for a 30-yard touchdown pass and a 14-7 lead with 4:41 left in the third.

It marks the fifth game this year the Chiefs offense has failed to score a touchdown. Brady Quinn went 13-for-25 for 126 yards and an interception.

Jamaal Charles surpassed the century mark with 107 yards on 23 carries.

Matt Prater added a 34-yard make with 14 seconds remaining, pushing Denver's lead to 17-9. The Chiefs failed to respond down one possession.

Kansas City hosts Carolina next Sunday.
