Spoofhounds Up for Nation's Most Unique Mascot

(MARYVILLE, Mo.) Maryville's made a name for themselves across the state for their athletic success. But when folks think about the town tucked away in northwest Missouri, one question usually comes to mind.
What is a Spoofhound?
It's a name that's synonymous with Maryville High School, being the only athletic program in the country to use the name. It's name that originated in the 1920s with football coach L.E. Ziegler.
Walking the school's halls, it's not hard to find Maryville's calling card everywhere you look.
The USA Today has taken notice too, making the 'Hound one of 255 mascots in the running for 'Most Unique in America.'
The first round includes five mascots from each state and Washington D.C. The top vote-getter from each state will advance. Since the contest began the campaign to get another state title for 'Spoofy' has been in full gear around the school.
The Spoofhound is up against the Liberators of Bolivar, the Kewpies of Hickman, the Zizzers of West Plains, and the Midgets of Putnam County.
