Tewell Named New Boys Basketball Coach at LeBlond

(SAINT JOSEPH, Mo.) Bishop LeBlond has their next varsity boys head basketball coach in the fold.

Principal Solon Haynes announced today Tom Tewell will be the next head coach. He served as a girls assistant coach the past six seasons: five under Wayne Miller and one under Jeff Sullivan.

He takes over for Greg Kastner, who assumed the role shortly before the 2012-2013 season following the dismissal of Timothy Wenkel. Kastner will remain as the school's athletic director and varsity baseball coach.

A 1981 graduate of Central High School and alumnus of Kansas State and Rock Hurst University, this is Tewell's first head coaching job.

"Coach Kastner did an excellent job stabilizing the program," he said. "It's a great opportunity and I enjoy having the ability to give back to the community."

Tewell is also the owner of Tewell & Associates Financial Services.

"I'm almost 50-years-old and I've been around basketball all my life. I welcome the challenge. It'll be different going to a head coach from being an assistant, but I'm looking forward to it."

Bishop LeBlond was bounced in the semifinals of the Class 3, District 16 Tournament one week ago.
