Sgt. Issac Jackson, of Lathrop, died a week ago in Afghanistan. His family met at KCI today to take the fallen soldier back to his hometown. As 27-year-old, Sgt. Jackson's remains were delivered at Kansas City International Airport, people close to him speak out to the media for the first time about the kind of person he was. "He was a very outgoing man, a Christian man, always willing to share his faith with anybody that wanted to listen," said Issac's Step-Father-In-Law, Chad Ward. "A wonderful father, a husband. He wanted to make sure that his wife was well taken care of and mother, also. Just a good family man." Sgt. Jackson and six others were killed by a roadside bomb last week while serving in Afghanistan. "He felt strongly about being over there and making sure we were all safe here in the United States," said Ward. About a hundred Patriot Guard riders were present for the delivery. "We're here to honor him and pay or respects and our mission is to protect the family from any kind of disruption from protesters that might be there," said Patriot Guard rider, Robert Sever. Good friend and fellow soldier, John Phillips, can't put into words what he'll miss most about Jackson. "There's no "most," said Phillips. "You just miss everything about him." But most disturbing is what the future holds for the family he leaves behind. A wife, a daughter on the way, and his son. "His son is not ever going to get to play with him and be with him again," said Ward. Flags will fly at half-staff in Jackson's honor through November 10 on all state buildings in Clinton County. The same order applies statewide tomorrow for Jackson's funeral. |
