The demand for vocational and technical workers continues to grow, even as the economy struggles.
That's why Missouri Governor Jay Nixon stopped by North Central Missouri College on Tuesday.
He continued his tour of community colleges, stressing the importance of teaching vocational training.
Nixon says, "Whether they're in allied health, nursing, or other technical programs, it's a very important way for us to jump start this economy and move this state forward again."
Community colleges like North Central Missouri College are leading the way in training students for jobs to help jump start economic recovery.
Neil Nuttall, President of NCMC says, "We think the answer for Missouri is to develop those middle skill level areas where our individuals can get a higher wage, a higher standard of living, and that those industries stay in our region.”
