Reported by: Edward Burch Monday, Nov 2, 2009 @05:59pm CST The LIHEAP Program offered by the Community Action Partnership provides a credit toward a home's primary heat source.
The program provides emergency assistance to families whose heat is shut off or in danger of being disconnected. Stephanie Lux, Volunteer Coordinator for CAP says, "if someone has been disconnected, we'll work with them. with our emergency assistance. we'll work with them to get the credit, but sometimes they need more assistance to get their utilities turned on right away.” The credit can be applied to one bill or can be spaced out all winter to lower each bill. This helps families during tough economic times. Delphia Shanks, Director of Community Development for CAP says, "this program provides that little bit of extra assistance that can really help a family get through a tough time." |
