The New Nodaway Humane Society will accept baked goods to prepare for a sale that will benefit the animal shelter. Volunteers may donate cookies, cupcakes, brownies and other goods from noon to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the shelter's location at 829 S. Depot Street in Maryville.

The shelter provides a temporary sanctuary for lost or abandoned pets. It also provides education about pet care and owner responsibility. For a link to the shelter's website, click here .

A Northwest Missouri State University organization is sponsoring the bake sale to raise money for the New Nodaway Humane Society. Northwest Advocates for Animal Awareness said it works to strengthen the community's capacity to make good decisions concerning domestic animals. The group will host a bake sale from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, outside the J.W. Jones Student Union on the Northwest Campus.
