(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The American Red Cross is once again calling on community "heroes" to help with an annual fundraising campaign.
The St. Joseph chapter kicked off its Heroes for the Red Cross Campaign Tuesday with a breakfast.
Seventy-four volunteers from northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas are working to raise $1,000 each.
One of the heroes this year is Joyce Edwards. She says she's been involved in helping displaced families after fires, setting up disaster shelters, and aiding with flood relief.
Volunteering is a big part of her life, because she feels that's the way it should be.
"Red Cross is an organization that helps the most vulnerable and when people are having a really rough time, I just think it's the right thing to do to help them," said Edwards.
The Heroes Campaign is one effort to help raise money to support the work by volunteers.
"Our volunteers can respond 24 hours a day when people need emergency help. Without this Heroes Campaign, we wouldn't have the financial dollars to provide all the services that we provide in the community," said Kevin Kirby, Red Cross.
The American Red Cross has set a goal of raising $100,000 with this campaign. It runs through April 20.
Bridget Blevins is representing KQ2 as a hero for the Red Cross this year. Donations can be made through her page at this link.
